Our faces change with time. The skin's natural materials, like collagen and elastic tissue, slowly diminish resulting in the deepening of our normal lines and folds as well as flattening of our cheek area and lips. For decades doctors have been looking for the perfect products to place in these areas giving a safe, fast, and natural looking improvement. Now there are many products available that can provide us with the results we are looking for.

In Dr. Bennett's practice there are several different fillers available to improve creases, fine lines and volume loss. All products are safe and have been used in the United States for many years. Each product has specific benefits depending on the area you desire to improve or correct.

Dermal fillers that are based on hyaluronic acid (a naturally occurring substance in our skin) are generally referred to as HA's and include Perlane®, Juvederm®, and Restylane®. These are perfect for correcting fine lines, deep creases, and augmenting lips and will usually last about a year.

Radiesse®, which is made from Calcium Hydroxylapatite, is an excellent product to treat areas with moderate volume loss and facial folds. Radiesse is also used to fill out cheeks and improve facial contours. This product is expected to last 12 to 18 months.

Unlike dermal fillers, Sculptra® gradually replaces lost collagen providing results that last up to 2 years before ever needing a touch up. The results are gradual and natural-looking. It is made from polylactic acid, a natural fruit based material. Sculptra is a product used to correct volume loss, improve skin texture, improve moderate to deep creases and facial contours. Sculptra® is injected as a series of 2 to 3 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart.

Impressions of beauty change over time, as do our faces as we age. One of the great advantages with Dermal Fillers is that they are long-lasting but not permanent. You always have the choice to continue or change the combination of treatments, and the procedure can be repeated as often as you like. YOU are always in charge of your looks!

When treating wrinkles or folds with Radiesse®, Perlane®, Juvederm® or Restylane®, the product is injected into the skin in small amounts with a very fine needle. The injected product gives natural volume under the treated area, which is lifted up and smoothed out. A treatment takes about 15-45 minutes (depending on the number of areas treated) and results can be seen immediately.

Sculptra is also injected with a very fine needle, but the results are more gradual as lost collagen is reproduced by your body.

After treatment you may experience some swelling, tenderness and redness. This is a normal result of the injection and these symptoms generally disappear in two to four days. This method is fast and safe and leaves no scars or other traces on the face.

If you are receiving an injection, you may want to consider arriving a few minutes early to purchase and apply topical numbing medication. Also it is best to avoid medications that thin the blood including such over-the-counter products as aspirin, Advil, Aleve, ibuprofens, Excedrin or fish oil supplements for 10 to 14 days prior to your treatment. These products increase the chance of bruising which is always a possibility when injectables are used.

These injectables are biodegradable which means that they will gradually be absorbed. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place, and when totally absorbed, the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. How long a treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity.
